Beginning July 1, 2013 all NEW substitutes for custodial, food service or clerical positions must possess a Florida Ready to Work Credential. NEW substitute teachers must possess either a silver or gold Florida Ready to Work Credential. Substitute Teachers
- Complete a Noninstructional Application
- Complete online training courses at www.edtrainingcenter.com ($15.00). (The edtrainingcenter website states that the cost is $25.00, but the price changes to $15.00 once the applicant adds it to their online shopping cart.) Go to Introductory Teacher Training, and take Course I (Sub Teaching 101) and Course II (Advanced Classroom Management). Once you have completed the two (2) courses, please print all certificates and forms.
- Bring all Edtraining Center certificates and forms* to the Human Resources Department located in the Hernando County Public Schools Support Complex, 919 N. Broad Street, Brooksville, FL 34601 or fax them to 352-797-7105.
*At this time you may also drop off any official, sealed transcripts you may have along with your high school diploma, social security card and driver's license. Copies of these will be put in your file along with any other information that you submit.
- Request a Substitute Packet from the Human Resources Department
- Complete Drug Testing ($43.00). Do not go for a drug test until advised by the Human Resources Department.
6. Get fingerprinted in the Human Resources Department. The fingerprinting cost is $54.50.
7. Register for and attend an Initial Substitute Training Class in the Human Resources Department.*

Substitute Teacher Salary Schedule - effective January 2013

Noninstructional Substitutes
The school district regularly uses noninstructional substitutes in a variety of positions including custodial, food service, clinic, clerical, bus operators and bus aides. Please follow the steps below to complete the application process:
- Complete a Noninstructional Application
- Request a Part-Time Packet from the Human Resources Department
*At this time you may also drop off any official, sealed transcripts you may have along with your high school diploma, social security card and driver's license. Copies of these will be put in your file along with any other information that you submit.
3. Complete Drug Testing ($43.00). Do not go for a drug test until advised by the Human Resources Department.
4. Get Fingerprinted in the Human Resources Department.
Employees are required to be fingerprinted by the Human Resources Department, and the employee is responsible for the cost of fingerprint processing ($54.50). The criminal history background report results must be received before an employee can report to work. If an employee fails to disclose all arrests or has arrests that are prohibited in the Hiring Guidelines, it will result in a Not-Eligible to Work status or termination.
Noninstructional Substitute applicants must complete Online New Employee Orientation prior to being listed on the substitute call list.

Noninstructional Substitute Salary Schedule - effective January 2013
Renewing Substitutes (current substitutes updating their badge)
Beginning April 1, 2013 through November 1, 2013 you can renew your ID Badge. If your ID Badge is not renewed by November 1, 2013 you will have to complete the entire new hire process again.
An applicant who has met all substitute requirements and who has been issued a substitute card must work at least three days per school year to remain on the active substitute list. If a substitute does not meet this minimum requirement, he/she will be terminated and must begin the process again to be reinstated as a substitute.
