Adult Education Programs
ABE - Adult Basic Education (Pre-GED)
Adult Basic Education involves non-credit courses designed to develop literacy skills necessary for successful employment and citizenship. Adult Basic Education prepares students to enroll in the GED preparation courses. Students in ABE classes work on skills in Reading, Math, and Language. Courses are offered at 2 locations around the county. The cost is $30.00 per term.
Adult High School & Co-enrolled
Adult High School classes are available for former students who are 18+ with at least 12 high school credits. Students will have an opportunity to earn a high school diploma once all graduation requirements are completed. Co-enrolled courses are offered to students who are behind in credits needed for graduation. Registration occurs through high school guidance office for co-enrolled and the Adult Education guidance office for Adult High School. There is no fee for co-enrolled, and a $0 fee per term for Adult High School.
Community Education Classes
Community Education classes are available, covering everything from crocheting, to oil painting, to Intro to Welding. Fees are required but are usually minimal.
ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
The purpose of this course is to provide English language instruction for limited English proficient adults, which will increase their ability to communicate in English. Courses are offered at 3 locations around the county. The cost is $30.00 per term.
GED General Educational Preparation Classes
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for academic and personal success by obtaining the necessary skills required to pass the official GED Test and be awarded the State of Florida High School Diploma. Courses are offered at 4 locations around the county. The cost is $30.00 per term.
GED Testing Services
The GED exam is offered through GED Testing Services, for anyone ages 18 or older. Hernando County does have a local testing center; however registration and payment arrangements are made at ged.com. All students under the age of 18 must have an Underage Waiver prior to scheduling your test. In Florida, a student who is 16 or 17 is required to meet the conditions set by the school district in which he/she resides or attends school.
Suncoast Technical Education Center
SunTech was founded in August of 2013 and currently has six career technical programs (Manufacturing, Automotive, Air Conditioning, Applied Cybersecurity, Welding and Cosmetology). SunTech also offers a C.N.A. Challenge Course, a Certified Logistics Associate course, and a Life Insurance Marketing course. Tuition for in state students is $2.92 per hour.
