Tardy/Early Dismissal Policy

Tardies are coded as TR and are a Level 1 offense according to the Hernando County Student Code of Conduct. The code of conduct also states that each school will have a uniform agreement on what is defined as “tardy to class.” Violations one (1) to five (5) are Level 1 offenses.

Powell’s tardy policy is as follows:

Number Consequence
Tardies 1-3 Teacher/Student Conference and parent phone call.
4th and 5th tardy per period Discipline referral written by teacher with lunch detention assigned by administrator.
6th tardy per period Discipline referral written by teacher and 1 day of ISS.
7th tardy per period Discipline referral written by teacher and 2 day of ISS.
8th tardy per period Discipline referral written by teacher and 3 day of ISS. Request parent conference.
9th tardy per period Discipline referral written by teacher and 4 day of ISS assigned by administrator.
10th+ tardy per period Discipline referral written by teacher. Considered Gross Insubordination at this point. Consequences may range from loss of privileges to OSS.

Unexcused tardy from class for ten (10) or more minutes will be considered skipping (SR), a Level 2 offense in the Student Code of Conduct and will result in ISS.

Five (5) or more unexcused tardies or early dismissals from school will be considered one (1) unexcused absence.

Students on special attendance may be sent back to their zoned school if tardies become excessive.

Tardies reset at the end of the first semester.
