Electronic Device Policy

Cell Phone/wireless Communication Devices (wcds)

Devices include but are not limited to personal laptop, tablets, net books, notebook, e-reader, iPod touch and/or smart phone.

Devices may only be used with permission and in approved areas of the school. If permission is not given, devices must be turned off and not displayed.

Students are fully responsible for the proper use and care of personal devices brought to school.

The school or district is not liable for any loss, damage, or theft of personally owned devices.

Refusal to turn over a device including a cell phone’s SIM card when directed by any staff member is considered Gross Insubordination and will result in Three (3) Days of Out –of-School Suspension.

Cell Phones may not disrupt school functions.

Taking pictures/videos of school staff or students without their permission is prohibited.

Policy Offense Details (2018-2019)

1ST Offense-Warning:  Teacher will direct student to turn off cell phone and put it away Teacher will log Cell Phone Violation on Cell Phone Tracking Sheet and turn it in to Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Castro. Mrs. Castro will log violation with a “W”
Teacher will contact Parent/Guardian
The Cell Phone Violation Tracking Sheet will be placed in Student’s Discipline Folder by the Secretary

2nd Offense: Teacher will log Cell Phone Violation on Cell Phone Tracking Sheet and turn it in to Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Castro. Mrs. Castro will log violation with a “X”
Cell Phone/Electronic Device will be confiscated by teacher/placed in a zip lock bag/labeled and turned in to Administration
Teacher will contact Parent/Guardian
Cell Phone will be returned to the student by the Discipline Secretary at the end of the day 
An Administrator will meet with the student
The Cell Phone Violation Tracking Sheet will be placed in Student’s Discipline Folder by the Secretary

3rd Offense: Teacher will log Cell Phone Violation on Cell Phone Tracking Sheet and turn it in to Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Castro. Mrs. Castro will log violation with a “X”
Cell Phone/Electronic Device will be confiscated by Teacher/placed in a zip lock bag/labeled and turned in to Administration
Discipline Secretary will write Discipline Referral for Cell Phone Violation and Gross Insubordination (CF & GI) – 3rd Offense
PARENT MUST PICK UP CELL PHONE FROM THE DISCIPLINE SECRETARY AT THE END OF THE DAY
1 Day of In-School-Suspension (I.S.S.)
A PARENT CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD TO EXPLAIN THAT ANY FUTURE CELL PHONE INCIDENTS WILL LEAD TO THE STUDENT BEING BANNED FROM CARRYING THE DEVICE ON NCTHS SCHOOL GROUNDS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY.  (Loss of Cell Phone Privilege)                                               

4th Offense: Teacher will log Cell Phone Violation on Cell Phone Tracking Sheet and turn it in to Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Castro. Mrs. Castro will log violation with a “X”
Cell Phone/Electronic Device will be confiscated by teacher/placed in a zip lock bag/labeled and turned in to Administration
Secretary will write Discipline Referral for Cell Phone Violation and Gross Insubordination (CF & GI) – 4th Offense
3 Days of In-School Suspension
PARENT CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD – PARENT MUST PICK UP CELL PHONE
All Teachers Will Be Notified of Loss of Cell Phone Privilege
STUDENT IS BANNED FROM CARRYING A CELL PHONE ON NCTHS SCHOOL GROUNDS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY.

5th Offense:  Teacher will log Cell Phone Violation on Cell Phone Tracking Sheet and turn it in to Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Castro. Mrs. Castro will log violation with a “X”
Cell Phone/Electronic Device will be confiscated by teacher/placed in a zip lock bag/labeled and turned in to Administration
Secretary will write Discipline Referral for Cell Phone Violation and Gross Insubordination (CF & GI)

5 Days of Out-of-School Suspension
PARENT CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD – PARENT MUST PICK UP CELL PHONE
STUDENT IS BANNED FROM CARRYING A CELL PHONE ON NCTHS SCHOOL GROUNDS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY.
All Teachers Will Be Notified of Loss of Cell Phone Privilege

Please Note:  Refusal to Give Your Cell Phone, Wireless Communication Device to include, but is not limited to: privately/owned laptop, tablet computing device, netbook, notebook, e-Reader, iPod touch ,smart phone, SIM card and battery to School Personnel upon request will result in 3 Days of Out-of-School Suspension for Gross Insubordination and Cell Phone Offense (CF & GI)

The student is fully responsible at all times for the personally-owned device brought to school and Nature Coast Technical High School and the Hernando County School District ARE NOT liable for any loss, damage or theft of a personally-owned device.

Taking pictures of school staff or students without their permission is prohibited. WCDs may not be used for illegal purposes, nor used for transmitting, retrieving, or storing any communications of an obscene, discriminatory, harassing nature, or for any other purpose that is against school board policy.

The taking, transferring, or other sharing of nude, obscene, pornographic, or otherwise illegal images or photographs, whether by electronic data transfer or otherwise (commonly called texting, sexting, e-mailing, picture mail, etc.) may constitute a crime under state and/or federal law. Any person taking, transferring, or other sharing of nude, obscene, pornographic, or otherwise illegal images or photographs will be reported to law enforcement and/or other appropriate state or federal agencies, which may result in arrest and prosecution.
