One to One Laptop Information

One-to-One Devices FAQ (2025–2026)

Who will receive a laptop?
Students in grades 9–12 will be issued a device to take home if their parent or guardian opts in. Students in grades K–5 will have access to devices in their classrooms, but the devices will remain on campus.  Students in grades 6-8 will have access to devices in their core classrooms, but the devices will remain on campus.

Are students in grades 9-12 required to have a laptop?
No. Parents may opt out by completing the Student Laptop Opt-Out Form.

Do students get to take the laptops home?
Only high school students (grades 9–12) whose parents opt in will be issued a device to take home. Devices for students in grades K–8 will remain on campus.

Is there a way for K–8 students to take a device home if needed?
A hardship-based device checkout system is being developed, and we anticipate it being ready and available early in the 2025-2026 school year. Qualifications and the process will be published when fully developed.

Will textbooks become digital?
In Florida, almost all publishers already provide a digital version of the textbook and most supplemental materials. Typically, school districts purchase paper 'consumables' such as workbooks for student use.

Can students bring their own laptops to school instead of accepting the district device?
Yes. Students may bring their own device and connect to the HCSD guest wireless network to access web-based resources.
