Application Procedures

We appreciate your interest in seeking employment with the Hernando County School Board. Our website is designed to assist you with your job search and to ensure that you understand the requirements needed to become employed.

NON-INSTRUCTIONAL APPLICANTS

  1. Complete an online non-instructional application, submit the required documentation, and apply for open positions that you are interested in and eligible for.
    Only COMPLETE applications will be reviewed. You will not be considered for any position if the application that you submit is incomplete or one for which you do not meet the minimum qualifications.
  2. View current job vacancies. Current employees must apply with their transfer application in order to view “internal” postings.
  3. Listed below are the items needed to complete your file. 
    Please note: Once any paperwork is received, it is only held for six (6) months. If you are hired before that time, this paperwork becomes part of your personnel file.
  4. References
    All applicants: Two (2) professional telephone or electronic references are required. One (1) must be from the immediate supervisor at your present or most recent place of employment. The other reference should be from another supervisor at a different place of employment. 
  5. High School/GED or College Transcripts
    Official high school/GED transcripts are needed. If you have a college education, please provide official transcripts for each college listed on the online application. If a degree was obtained outside the United States, it must be evaluated by a United States accrediting agency. Please contact Human Resources at 352-797-7005 for assistance.
  6. ParaPro Assessment
    An applicant applying for Paraprofessional positions must have an Associate’s Degree, 60 semester hours of college or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment (score of 457 or higher). Information for the ParaPro Assessment is available at ets.org/parapro.

INSTRUCTIONAL APPLICANTS

  1. Complete an online instructional application and apply for open positions that you are interested in

    Our application process requires you to complete the online application and to submit the required documentation. Listed below are the items needed to complete your file.For potential employees: Once any paperwork is received, it is only held for six (6) months. If you are hired before that time, this paperwork becomes part of your personnel file.
  3. References
    All applicants: All professional telephone or electronic references are required. One (1) must be from the immediate supervisor at your present or most recent place of employment. The other references should be from ALL previous supervisors. For recent college graduates, at least one (1) reference should be from a supervising teacher or principal of the school where your student teaching was completed.
  4. College Transcripts
    Official transcript(s) of all college degrees and credits must be provided. If a degree was obtained outside the United States, it must be evaluated by a United States accrediting agency. Please contact Human Resources at 352-797-7005 for assistance.
  5. Licensure

Speech/Language Pathologists, Audiologists, School Social Workers, Family Counselors and Occupational or Physical Therapists must submit a copy of the applicable licenses
After you have been offered a position, you should visit the Human Resources Department to complete the remainder of your new hire paperwork.  Our operating hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

After an Offer of Employment has been Extended

  1. The hiring site will submit a recommendation for your employment to the District’s Human Resources Department.
    A.  The Human Resources Department will email you regarding your next step.  After receiving an email, you must complete all required electronic employment documents.
    B.  You must complete your Post-Offer Fingerprinting and Drug Testing after you have completed Step A above.
    C.  Once you have completed Steps A and B, and all results are cleared, you will be issued a Clearance to Work Form and ID Badge.  You will then be eligible to begin working.

Alternative Certification Education

If your Status of Eligibility lists required coursework, you may choose these alternatives:

  • Complete required college and university courses with a grade of “C” or higher.
  • Complete Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) at Pasco Hernando State College.  Contact them at (727) 816-3714, or visit their website at https://educator-prep.phsc.edu/
  • Complete American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE).  Contact them at (877) 669-2228, or visit their website at www.abcte.org/teach/florida.
