Hiring Requirements

Only online applications will be accepted. All additional paperwork can be turned in to the Human Resources Department at 919 N. Broad Street, Brooksville, FL 34601.

ITEMS NEEDED FOR EMPLOYMENT

Original Social Security Card and Florida Driver's License

If original Social Security Card is not available, please visit Social Security Online. A candidate cannot be cleared for hire until the new Social Security Car is received by the Human Resources Department. 

If a Florida Driver’s License is not available, a Florida ID card is acceptable. Also, a valid driver’s license from another state is acceptable, but a Florida Driver’s License or ID must be presented to the Human Resources Department within thirty (30) days of the employee’s start date.

Notes: 

  • The full name listed on the Social Security and Driver’s License must be the same on both documents.  You will not be cleared for hire until both documents match.
  • Florida law provides that State agencies including the Hernando County School District, must notify individuals of the circumstances that would require the collection of social security numbers: Notice of Social Security Numbers Document

Green Card/Work Permits

Candidates who have a green card or work permit and are authorized to work in the United States must bring the card to their onboarding appointment with the Human Resources Department.

Drug Test

All employees are required to have a drug test prior to employment. The employee is responsible for the fee of $50.00. Do not go for a drug test until advised by the Human Resources Department.

Fingerprinting

Employees are required to be fingerprinted by the Human Resources Department. The employee is responsible for the fee of $58.55. The criminal history background report must be received before an employee can report to work. If an employee fails to disclose all arrests or has arrests that are prohibited in the Hiring Guidelines, it may result in a Not-Eligible to Work status or termination.

High School Diploma/Transcripts (if applicable)

Some positions with the Hernando County School District require a High School Diploma or GED and/or official college transcripts.  If applicable, these items must be submitted to the Human Resources Department before the candidate can be cleared for hire. If required, official transcripts can be sent from the educational institution electronically via email or mail.  All foreign transcripts must be translated, and a certificate of accuracy is required.

A non-instructional employee who has acquired sixty (60) college credits or more, as verified by a transcript, will be paid an additional amount as approved by the School Board. When verification of an official transcript is received by the Human Resources Department, an adjustment to the salary will be made from the beginning of the pay period during which it was received.

Paraprofessional Requirements

An applicant applying for Paraprofessional positions must have one of the following:

  • An Associate’s Degree or higher
  • A minimum of at least 60 semester hours of college
  • A score of 457 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment and a High School Diploma or GED.
