Student Delegate, Gina Doherty

Gina Doherty, 17, is a senior at Nature Coast Technical High School. She was elected to the seat in September, following a vote by members of the school district's Student Delegate Program.

Doherty has been involved in student government since her freshman year, but this year has allowed her to branch out and work with students at other schools. "My goals are to provide more incentive for students to attend school," she said. "So my goal is to implement activities that help provide variation from basic day-to-day school life." As a voice for students throughout the district, Doherty serves as the student liaison to the Board, providing regular updates from the schools. She is a member of National Honor Society and Beta Club, and is part of NCT's varsity swim team and varsity tennis team. She also volunteers her time with the micro program at Chocachatti.

Doherty is the daughter of Charles and Silvina Doherty of Spring Hill and is a product of Hernando Schools - attending Chocachatti Elementary, Challenger K8 and Nature Coast Tech, where she is currently finishing her senior year. "I have an amazing support system with my loving mom and dad (and my cat, Zook)," Doherty said. She plans to graduate this spring with an Associate's degree from Pasco- Hernando State College. She hopes to attend the University of Florida next fall to study political science. "I then plan to go to law school to become an attorney," she said.
