HCSD Announces Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year
Brooksville, Fla. – The Hernando County School District has selected Chris Healy and Brandon Wright as the 2026 HCSD Principal and Assistant Principal of the year.
Healy, the current principal at West Hernando Middle School, and Wright, a current Assistant Principal at D.S. Parrott Middle School, were nominated by HCSD staff and faculty, students, parents and community members to receive the honor.
“I have witnessed firsthand Mr. Healy’s unwavering dedication to our students, staff, and community. His leadership has transformed our school into a place where high expectations, positivity, and safety are the foundation of everything we do,” said a POY nominator.
“Mr. Wright creates a positive school culture by building relationships with students, staff and families. He has high expectations for all and models them himself. His kind and caring approach enables him to support staff and students. He is knowledgeable about academics and is a big part of the school’s success,” said an APOY nominator.
The pair received notice of being awarded the honor from the HCSD leadership team during surprise ceremonies hosted at their schools.
“Humbled and honored aren't words that feel strong enough to convey how this experience feels but I am not sure there are any words that could,” said Healy.
“It was a rush of emotions, but I was honored and humbled to be chosen from such an amazing group of educators in our county,” said Wright.
Both awardees recognized the staff and community that they are a part of for their continued support.
“Winning this award is important because it is a representation of the community that we have built together at West Hernando which is one that is tirelessly dedicated to the success of our students,” said Healy.
“I am so proud to represent every staff member, student, and family of Parrott Middle School and the rest of Hernando County Schools. This recognition just reflects the hard work and collaboration of our entire school community,” said Wright.
Healy and Wright will represent Hernando County as they vie for Florida POY and APOY in December.
