Kayce Hawkins Selected as HCSD School Board Chair; Shannon Rodriguez Selected as Vice Chair
Brooksville, FL — The Hernando County School Board has selected Kayce Hawkins as the new School Board Chair and Shannon Rodriguez as Vice Chair for the upcoming term. The selections were made during the Board’s annual reorganizational meeting held Nov. 18.
Chair Kayce Hawkins, who has served the Hernando County community with dedication and a strong commitment to student success, brings a collaborative leadership style focused on transparency, academic excellence, and supporting safe and thriving schools. Hawkins expressed gratitude for the Board’s confidence and emphasized continued partnership with families, staff, and the community.
“I am honored to serve as Chair,” Hawkins said. “We have tremendous momentum in our district, and I look forward to working with my fellow board members, our superintendent, and our school communities to support student achievement and advance our shared goals.”
Vice Chair Shannon Rodriguez has been a strong advocate for parental engagement, student opportunities, and ensuring that Hernando County Schools continue to grow and thrive. Rodriguez will support Chair Hawkins in guiding Board priorities and maintaining a strong governance framework for the district.
“I appreciate the opportunity to continue serving our families and staff in this expanded leadership role,” Rodriguez said. “Together, we will keep our focus on what matters most—our students.”
Superintendent Ray Pinder congratulated both leaders and expressed confidence in the Board’s direction for the year ahead.

The new leadership team will begin their duties immediately as the Board continues its work to support academic excellence, strengthen community partnerships, and ensure safe and enriching learning environments for all students.
