School Board announces passing of General Counsel

Brooksville - It is with sadness the Hernando School District announces the passing of Dennis Alfonso, General Counsel to the school board. Mr. Alfonso, an attorney with Alfonso Hersch P.A. in Dade City, began his counsel with the Hernando School Board in 2011. He was also General Counsel to the Pasco County School Board and the Pasco County Clerk and Comptroller.

"As the advisor to the school board, Dennis was knowledgeable, responsive and patient as he guided us through our work," said Board Chair Gus Guadagnino. "As a person he was kind, patient, musically gifted and a genuinely wonderful human being."

A life-long resident of the Tampa Bay area, Mr. Alfonso spent his childhood in Tampa, graduated from Jesuit High School, received his BA degree at the University of South Florida and his law degree from Stetson University College of Law. Outside his career as an attorney, Mr. Alfonso was a Lay Eucharistic Minister and the Chancellor for St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Dade City, and was a member of numerous community organizations and charities. He was also prolific musician and singer, and was known to perform at various community events and functions.
