Deltona Doves Become the Deltona Dragons

MEDIA RELEASE Brooksville, Fla. – This year will be new in many ways for Deltona Elementary School. Along with welcoming a new principal, Sandra Girlado, the DES team has a new school mascot. Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, the Deltona Doves will become the Deltona Dragons.
 
The mascot change was driven by feedback from students, staff, families, and community,  who wanted a symbol that reflects the school's vision for the future while continuing to build a strong sense of unity and belonging.
 
"The Dragon represents strength, courage, determination, and school pride," said Giraldo. "While we honor the traditions and memories created as the Deltona Doves, we are excited to embark on a new journey and embrace a mascot that inspires our students to be bold learners, courageous leaders, and proud members of the Deltona family."
 
If you would like to learn more about the school, build connections with the DES family and learn about DES goals for the upcoming year, the school is hosting a meet the principal and leadership team event for DES families and community on Thurs. Jul. 30 at 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the DES cafeteria.
