CLT an abbreviation for the Classic Learning Test

Welcome to the New CLT Test

We are excited to introduce you to the CLT (Classic Learning Test), an alternative college entrance exam gaining traction across the nation and especially in Florida! As you plan your academic journey and strive towards your educational goals, understanding the CLT and its significance, particularly in relation to the Bright Futures Scholarship, is crucial.

What is the CLT?

  • The CLT is a college entrance exam designed to assess a student's readiness for higher education.  It consists of three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Grammar/Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning.

How is it Scored?

  • The CLT employs a scoring system ranging from 0 to 120, with each section scored out of 40 points. The total score is the sum of the three section scores. The CLT also offers a unique scoring feature called the CLT percentiles, which compares your score to others who have taken the test, providing valuable insights into your academic standing.

Why Should Florida Students Take the CLT?

  • Meet the Florida High School Diploma Reading/Writing Graduation Test Requirement:
    • The concordant score for the Reading Graduation Test Requirement is a 36 on the CLT Verbal Reasoning and Grammar/Writing sections.
      • The scores from the Verbal Reasoning and Grammar/Writing subject tests that are used to calculate the sum are not required to come from the same test administration.
    • The concordant score for the Math Graduation Test Requirement is an 11 on the CLT Quantitative Reasoning (Math) section.
  • Alignment with Bright Futures Scholarship: The CLT is gaining recognition among colleges and universities nationwide, including those in Florida. Many institutions now accept the CLT as an alternative to the SAT and ACT. Taking the CLT can open doors to a variety of academic opportunities, including eligibility for the Bright Futures Scholarship.

    • Students who earn a 96 or above are eligible for the FAS award and students who earn an 84 or above are eligible for the FMS award.
